Wild snake triggers power outage in Ashanti Region

A wild snake intrusion at the ECG substation in Kwaso (Ejisu Municipality) caused a widespread power outage across parts of the Ashanti Region on June 11, 2025.

The reptile made contact between the Akyawkrom 2 feeder line and the grounding equipment, triggering an automatic shutdown.

ECG’s emergency team restored power swiftly after isolating the incident.

Officials confirm this highlights a persistent threat to grid stability from wildlife.

"Snakes, birds, and other animals remain serious non-technical risks to our infrastructure," stated Collins Manu, ECG’s Ashanti Sub-Transmission PRO.

"This incident reinforces the urgency of our prevention strategy.

Ing. Peter K. Fletcher, ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission General Manager, emphasised: "Early public reports are critical.

Community vigilance helps us prevent outages before they occur."
