NDC mourns ‘fearless’ Dr Omane Boamah at state funeral

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has underlined that the late Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, was a fearless activist and political strategist whose life and public service demonstrated a keen sense of “courage, intellect, and unyielding dedication to justice”.
The ruling party said Dr Boamah’s passing left “a void not only in the party but in the fabric of Ghana’s democracy,” emphasizing he was one “one of the bravest sons of our land”.
Fiifi Kwetey, NDC General Secretary, eulogised Dr Boamah during his state burial today, Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square, being among the eight who perished aboard the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Z9 helicopter which crashed and burned on August 6.
The NDC honoured the University of Ghana (UG) alumnus, a prominent member of the Committee for Joint Action (CJA), “a formidable voice for the masses and a nightmare for the government of the day,” together with Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, now Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, and former People’s National Convention (PNC) flagbearer Bernard Mornah.
NDC underlined Dr Boamah’s respected electoral defence and strategy skills, which eventually led to his appointment as the party’s director of elections, helping improve voter engagement nationwide.
The party said his “legacy of service, courage, and justice will inspire generations to come”.
High offices held by Dr Omane Boamah during his service in government:
