Fire traps and kills 8-year-old girl at Dansoman market
An 8-year-old girl has died following a fire outbreak which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Dansoman Market.
The fire destroyed several wooden structures and shops.
The 8-year old is said to have been trapped in the devastating fire.
The fire, according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) which started a little after midnight, was first reported at 12:02 AM. A crew from the Dansoman Fire Station arrived two minutes later and found the blaze spreading rapidly across multiple sections of the market.
Realising the intensity of the situation, firefighters immediately called for reinforcement.

Eight additional fire engines were dispatched from stations including Industrial Area, Ministries, National Headquarters, Madina, Weija, Anyaa and Accra City. Two water tankers from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly also joined the operation.
The fire was confined by 01:51 AM, brought under control at 03:03 AM, and fully extinguished by 05:21 AM, after overhauling operations to eliminate hidden pockets of fire.

Tragically, the young girl was caught in one of the affected sections and could not be rescued. Her badly charred body has been handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigation.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
The GNFS has called on the public to remain vigilant and exercise caution in market areas to prevent future tragedies.
