Dep. Agric. Min. Dumelo, MP Agbana tour Weta rice irrigation farms in Ketu North, donate fertilisers to farmers

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North Edem Agbana, together with the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, in a significant step to reaffirm their commitment and government's effort towards the welfare of farmers in Ketu North paid a working visit to some rice farms in the constituency.
The visit followed MP Agbana’s invitation to the deputy minister to witness firsthand the extent of damage caused by severe flooding to over 200 hectares of rice farms.
The flooding, according to local farmers, was largely due to blocked canals that have disrupted proper water flow in the area.
During the visit, the delegation also inspected the Weta Irrigation Dam, which serves as a critical resource for farming communities in the constituency.
Agbana reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to their wellbeing and promised to work closely with relevant agencies to seek compensation for affected farmers.
He also assured the community that long term solutions would be pursued to address the perennial flooding challenges facing the area.
“I am encouraged by the words of appreciation and support from the farmers. They recognise and value the efforts we have made on their behalf so far, and that strengthens my resolve to keep fighting for them,” he noted.
Farmers present at the event expressed gratitude for the timely visit and intervention, noting that this was the first time in recent years that such high-level attention had been given to their plight.
As part of government support under the Feed Ghana Project, John Dumelo, on behalf of the Minister for Food and Agriculture, presented over 6,000 bags of fertilisers to the 12 Water User Associations (WUAs) operating under the project in Ketu North. The donation was aimed at boosting food production and supporting farmers whose livelihoods had been severely impacted by the floods.
The visit marked another step in lawmaker Edem Agbana’s proactive leadership and advocacy for sustainable agricultural development in Ketu North.
