Credibility of the bench and bar vital for business, development, public trust: President Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has emphasised the critical role of a credible justice system in driving national development, cautioning that economic growth could not be sustained without strong legal foundations.
Speaking at the swearing-in of new High Court judges, President Mahama said that while infrastructure investment was vital, it had to be supported by fairness and the rule of law.
“A nation that invests in infrastructure but neglects the rule of law builds its progress on shifting sands,” he said.
“An investor once told me, ‘Mr President, I can manage my investment risk, but I cannot manage uncertainty of the courts.’”
The president noted that as part of his government’s Reset Agenda, wide-ranging reforms were being implemented to modernise court processes, expand e-justice systems, and enhance access to legal services across the country.
He urged collaboration between the bench and the bar to promote greater efficiency and fairness in the justice system, stressing that the credibility of Ghana’s courts is vital to both investor confidence and public trust.
