A/R: Suame main road blocked by artisans over unfinished road, health risks
Artisans at the Suame Magazine in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti region blocked the Suame main road, burning car tyres in protest over the heavy dust on the road under construction.
The protest happened today, Thursday, November 20, 2025.
The artisans said the contractor had failed to regularly water the stretch, causing dust to blow into their workshops and posing health risks.
The aggrieved artisans said they had petitioned the authorities on several occasions, but nothing had been done to address the situation.
Their action caused heavy traffic and delays on the busy Suame road.
Police officers who were deployed struggled to control the crowd and had to call for reinforcement.
Calm was restored, and the road unblocked only after the Kumasi Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, also known as King Zuba, and the Suame Municipal Chief Executive arrived at the scene.
The mayor assured the protesters that the road would be watered daily to help reduce the dust. The protesters cautioned they would block the road again if the authorities refused to fulfil their promise.
