Strongman says we won’t rap about scamming or drugs, sticks to his authenticity
Popular Ghanaian rapper Strongman, born Osei Kwaku Vincent, has made it clear that he will not follow the rising trend of “scammer rap” or songs about drugs and street crime, insisting that authenticity is central to his music.
Speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi, Strongman emphasised that rapping about lifestyles he has never lived would feel “funny and fake.”
He explained that his music stems from his real-life experiences, making themes like love, personal struggles, and even parties a natural choice for his songs.
“It’s easier to create music based on real experience.
That’s why I’m comfortable with themes like love, hate, and even parties, especially now that my friends sometimes involve me in such settings,” he said.
The rapper also revealed that his social circle influences his music style.
“My circle is full of gentle people who don’t even drink alcohol, so they won’t expose me to certain things for me to rap about them,” Strongman noted.
As young artists in Ghana increasingly explore “scammer rap,” Strongman’s stance underscores his commitment to staying true to himself and delivering music that resonates with his personal journey rather than following trends
