GIPC call stronger investment partnership with Suriname
The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has called for stronger investment collaboration between Ghana and Suriname, pointing to growing opportunities in trade, tourism and cultural exchange.
The appeal was made during a panel discussion at the celebration of Suriname’s 50th Independence Anniversary held in Ho, in the Volta Region.
Speaking at the event, the Regional Manager of GIPC for the Volta and Oti Regions, Mr Selase Akpo-Agbovi, reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to helping communities identify and develop viable investment opportunities.
Mr Akpo-Agbovi outlined GIPC’s mandate within the region and briefed participants on the ongoing Investment Opportunity Mapping Project, an initiative aimed at identifying and documenting sectors with high investment potential across Ghana.
He also noted that GIPC regularly organises international webinars to explore emerging business opportunities and provide clarity on Ghana’s investment and regulatory frameworks.
He further assured stakeholders that GIPC is prepared to facilitate country-specific investment dialogues with Suriname and Barbados to deepen economic cooperation following the anniversary celebrations.
Addressing the gathering, Suriname’s High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Fidelia Grand-Galon, urged Ghanaian producers and exporters to take advantage of the rising demand for made-in-Ghana products in Suriname.
She added that the establishment of a direct shipping route between the two countries would significantly boost bilateral trade.
Also speaking at the event, Barbados’ High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, highlighted Barbados’ long-standing historical and cultural links with Africa, particularly Ghana.
She emphasised the need to promote community-based tourism, strengthen public health systems, and develop special economic zones, noting Barbados’ readiness to pursue technical cooperation in these areas.
The anniversary celebration was held under the theme “Building Stronger Ties Through Culture and Tourism: Suriname and Volta Region,” bringing together diplomats, investment stakeholders and community leaders to explore avenues for deeper regional and international collaboration.
