Finance Minister presenting 2026 budget to Parliament
Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, is presenting the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament, detailing the government’s fiscal direction, growth priorities, and expenditure plans for the coming year.
The much-anticipated budget is expected to focus on job creation, productivity, and economic expansion, with strategic investments in key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, energy, and digital innovation.
He also outlined measures to reinforce macroeconomic stability, enhance domestic revenue mobilisation, and strengthen social protection programmes.
Among the key highlights anticipated in the budget are:
Removal of the COVID-19 levy signals a shift toward easing the tax burden on businesses and households.
Broadening of the tax net and improved compliance through digital taxation reforms.
Prioritisation of infrastructure development, especially in roads, water, and energy.
Enhanced support for SMEs, agriculture, and manufacturing as engines of job creation.
Strengthening of education, health, and social welfare programmes to protect vulnerable groups.
Transition from IMF oversight to a domestically driven growth strategy.
Introduction of new flagship initiatives, including the Adwumawura Programme, National Apprenticeship Programme, and Women’s Development Bank.
Launch of Digital Job Initiatives aimed at training one million young coders.
Implementation of the “Big Push” Infrastructure Plan and the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda.
