Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu backs Dede Ayew’s potential Black Stars return
Former Black Stars star Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has weighed in on the debate over André Ayew’s possible return to the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Agyemang-Badu highlighted Ayew’s recent scoring form as a strong case for a recall. He noted that if the 36-year-old’s current performances align with head coach Otto Addo’s tactical plans, including him in the squad could strengthen the team.
“My brother André Ayew is playing well and scoring goals. If the coach believes his style fits the game plan, then why not,” Agyemang-Badu said, speaking to Citi Sports.
Ayew’s resurgence comes after his move to Dutch club NAC Breda, where he scored in a dramatic 3-3 draw against Feyenoord. The veteran forward, Ghana’s most-capped player, last featured for the Black Stars two years ago.
While supporting a potential call-up, Agyemang-Badu stressed that joining the national team is a “privilege, not compulsory,” underlining that the final decision rests with the technical team.
Since joining NAC Breda, Ayew has played nine league matches, starting in the last four, showcasing a scoring form that could influence his return to the national setup.
