Ghana, Belarus hold talks to deepen bilateral cooperation

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, held bilateral discussions with his Belarusian counterpart, Maxim Ryzhenkov, aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.

The meeting focused on enhancing political and economic cooperation and translating the existing goodwill between Ghana and Belarus into concrete outcomes.

During the discussions, Hon. Ablakwa reiterated Ghana’s commitment to deepening collaboration in key sectors such as agricultural mechanisation, education,  trade and investment.

He noted that Belarus has considerable expertise in agricultural mechanisation and expressed Ghana’s interest in exploring strategic partnerships to modernise and improve productivity in the country’s agricultural sector.

The Foreign Affairs Minister also underscored the importance of strengthening people-to-people exchanges and proposed discussions on visa facilitation arrangements to ease travel and promote closer interaction between citizens of both countries.

In response, H.E. Ryzhenkov reaffirmed Belarus’ readiness to expand cooperation with Ghana across agriculture, industry, trade, and technology.

He outlined proposals for several agreements designed to provide a stronger legal and institutional framework for bilateral relations.

These include agreements on visa facilitation, customs cooperation, investment protection, and the establishment of a joint commission on trade and economic cooperation.

Both sides further highlighted the need to promote high-level visits as a means of consolidating ties and sustaining momentum in their engagements.

 

The meeting concluded with a mutual reaffirmation of commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Ghana and Belarus.
