Burnt fuel tanker causes major traffic disruption on Tema-Accra motorway
Vehicular movement on the Tema-Accra Motorway was severely disrupted early this morning following a collision involving a fuel tanker and a tipper truck near the Ashaiman overhead bridge and the Adjei Kojo underpass.
The crash resulted in a fire that completely engulfed the fuel tanker, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged and causing significant concern among motorists using the busy highway.
Although details surrounding the circumstances of the collision remain unclear, emergency responders were swiftly deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent further damage.
At least three fire tenders and several personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were observed at the scene carrying out firefighting and safety operations during the early hours of the day.
Authorities have since brought the situation under control, with firefighters working to secure the area and ensure the safety of road users.
The incident, however, has led to heavy traffic congestion along portions of the motorway as emergency teams continue their operations and efforts are made to clear the affected vehicles from the roadway.
Motorists travelling between Tema and Accra have been advised to exercise caution and, where possible, use alternative routes to avoid delays.
No casualties or injuries had been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report, while investigations are expected to determine the cause of the collision.
Road users are being urged to cooperate with emergency personnel and follow traffic directions as authorities work to restore normal traffic flow on the motorway.
