Outgoing UniMAC-IJ TEIN President calls for unity and support for new leadership
Outgoing University of Media, Arts and Communication–Institute of Journalism (UniMAC-IJ) Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) President Sherritta Adu Agyei has urged members to embrace unity, integrity and collective responsibility as she officially handed over to the newly elected executives on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
The handover ceremony formed part of the Back to the Roots Conference and Handover Ceremony, during which she called on the incoming leadership to place the interests of the movement above personal ambitions and work towards building a stronger, more inclusive and united chapter.
Reflecting on her tenure, Madam Adu Agyei expressed satisfaction with the progress made under her TEIN 2.0 policy agenda, noting that she had implemented almost all the policies she set out to pursue. She described the organisation of the Back to the Roots Conference as one of the significant milestones of her administration.
She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage with distinguished senior comrades and guests, including Mr Afriyie Ankrah, Ms Shamima Muslim, Mr Peter Mensah, Ewura Karim Adams, Dr Saajida Shiraz, Antonio Edem and Nana Otu Darko, among others.
The conference also provided a platform to share the story of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), reconnect members with the party’s historical roots, and reflect on the values, struggles and principles that have shaped the movement and continue to define its members today. Madam Adu Agyei described these engagements, together with the support and encouragement she received, as valuable aspects of her leadership journey.
Acknowledging the challenges that characterised her tenure, she observed that leadership often comes with disagreements, difficult decisions and moments of uncertainty. She stressed, however, that unity does not happen automatically but requires deliberate effort and a collective commitment to protecting the shared interests of the movement.
“Leadership is not measured by how long you hold a position. It is measured by what remains when you let go,” she said, urging the incoming executives to lead with humility, discipline and integrity.
Madam Adu Agyei also appealed to members to support the new administration, hold its leaders accountable respectfully, and work collaboratively towards advancing the objectives of TEIN at UniMAC-IJ.
She expressed gratitude to God, her Patron, Dr Josuah Doe, executive team and the entire UniMAC-IJ TEIN membership for the opportunity to serve. She acknowledged that balancing leadership with her acting career, academic responsibilities, family and personal life had not been easy, but said the experience had equipped her with valuable lessons for the future.
She commended her fellow executives for their sacrifices, commitment and support throughout her tenure, noting that their collective efforts had contributed to the progress made under her administration.
The outgoing president reaffirmed her commitment to service, emphasising that stepping aside from office did not mean abandoning the movement but rather continuing to contribute from a different position.
She further urged members to move beyond divisions and personal differences, reminding them that they shared common roots, values and aspirations.
The ceremony marked the transition to a new administration, with a renewed call for unity, continuity and a stronger future for UniMAC-IJ TEIN.
Madam Adu Agyei concluded by expressing hope that the movement’s next chapter would be greater than the previous one and invoking God’s blessings on TEIN, its members and the National Democratic Congress.
