GA/R: Police nabs robber after trying to flash stolen iPhone in Tema
The Ashaiman Police in the Greater Accra Region have arrested a robbery suspect following an operation that led to the recovery of a stolen iPhone and the seizure of several weapons at his residence.
The arrest follows a complaint lodged at the police charge office by Esinam Theresa, 23, a service personnel, and Agnes Lamptey, 22, a nurse.
The two reported that in the early hours of March 7, 2026, at about 3:01 a.m., a male suspect robbed them at knife point at the Tema Motorway Roundabout.
According to the complainants, the suspect made away with their iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro, valued at GHS8,600 and GHS8,500, respectively.
Police officers, accompanied by the complainants, visited the crime scene as part of preliminary investigations.
Further intelligence later revealed that the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Kyei, had taken one of the stolen phones to a phone repairer in Tema to have it flashed.
The victim, Esinam Theresa, subsequently called the stolen phone, during which the repairer was informed that the device had been stolen.
The repairer cooperated with the victim and the police, leading to an ambush operation after the suspect was asked to return to collect the phone.
The suspect was arrested when he arrived at the repairer’s shop to retrieve the device.
Following the arrest, the Ashaiman District Police Commander, Superintendent Orlando Joseph Adzokpa, together with his team, escorted the suspect to his residence in Community One, Tema, where a search was conducted.
The search led to the discovery of several items, including one toy gun, three cutlasses, two knives, a hammer, four pairs of scissors, one pitch hammer and three spanners.
Some shirts belonging to the suspect were also retrieved to assist the complainants in identification.
All the items recovered have been retained by the police as exhibits.
Police say the suspect is also assisting with investigations to facilitate the arrest of the repairer who is currently in possession of the second stolen phone.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned before the court in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Ashaiman Police Command has reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations to clamp down on criminal activities in the municipality.
