The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Senegalese national and goalkeeper Cheikh Toure in October 2025.

The suspects, 32-year-old Salifu Walid, a Nigerien national, and 24-year-old Aziz Wadrago Mane, a Burkinabe national, were arrested on September 20, 2026, at their hideout at Banpanase, near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region.

According to the Police, “preliminary investigations indicate that the two suspects are members of a four-man group allegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder of the deceased.”

The Police said intelligence gathered further indicates that the suspects and their accomplices allegedly operated under the guise of football scouting agents.

They allegedly used online platforms and networking to lure unsuspecting victims into Ghana under the pretext of offering football-related opportunities.

“During interrogation, the two suspects allegedly admitted their involvement in the crime and disclosed their respective roles in luring the deceased into the country,” the Police said.

Toure’s body was brought to and abandoned at the Manhyia District Government Hospital on October 16, 2025, by three unidentified men believed to be foreign nationals.

The Police subsequently launched investigations to establish the identity of the perpetrators and the motive for the crime.

The Police said one alleged accomplice, Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, alias Prince Pierre, is currently on the run and is believed to have played a central role in the suspected cross-border operation.

Another foreign national identified as Barry is also being sought.

“The Police have intensified the manhunt for the two named accomplices and other persons who may be connected to the crime,” the Command said.

The two arrested suspects are currently in Police custody and will be processed before the court as investigations continue.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command said it was making every effort to bring all persons found to have played a role in the kidnapping and murder of Cheikh Toure to justice.
